About Jae Truesdell

Jae has called Toronto home for almost a decade, moving here from the Ottawa area to build his career. Since his arrival, he’s been committed to improving the lives of Torontonians and safeguarding the environment in and around the city.

Jae is a tireless advocate for affordable housing, a critical issue for every Torontonian, especially those in the mid-town Toronto-St. Paul’s neighbourhood. Soaring rents, historically low vacancy rates, long wait lists for social housing and inadequate mental health supports have fuelled a housing and homelessness crisis in Toronto, and Jae has been dedicated to tackling it.

As Senior Policy Advisor to Steve Clark, Ontario’s Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister, Jae  spearheaded policies within Ontario’s Housing Supply Action Plan, known as More Homes More Choice. The initiative is expected to spur construction that will help Ontario residents find affordable housing. The plan will also increase government spending on desperately needed community infrastructure, including parks, transit and recreational facilities.

Conservation efforts are also one of Jae’s passions. Before entering politics, he headed the Property and Legal Services department at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. The agency was created to enhance the health and well-being of the city’s watershed communities by protecting and restoring their natural environments.

Jae studied climate change, economics and governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He also graduated from Harvard Business School’s Program for Leadership Development in 2018. Jae is a onetime representative of Canada at the world junior kayaking championships and today, Jae supports many sports and arts organizations. Jae was also once a child model for Fort Henry in Kingston, Ont., and much to his chagrin, his smiling young face still emblazons a sign at a hotel in the Lake Ontario city.

Jae likes to relax at his home in the Toronto-St. Paul’s riding with his wife their cats, Zeus and Juno, and their dog Titus, who was rescued from a kill shelter in Ohio and is such a good boy that he’s a certified emotional support animal. Jae is fluently bilingual and enjoys travelling throughout Canada. He’s excited at the prospect of serving the amazing people of Toronto-St. Paul’s and looks forward to delivering the level of accountability and trust they deserve from their federal Member of Parliament.
